How do I choose the right ring setting?

How do I choose the right ring settings ?

Each setting is unique and has a personality all of its own. Becoming familiar with these setting styles may help you determine which setting is best for her taste.

Prong

This setting is most common and may come in four or six prong, depending on the shape of the gemstone. Prong setting allows the stone to be very prominent. The diamond will be visible from all sides for maximum radiance.

Cathedral

The cathedral is very similar to prong only with steep rising slopes for added protection of the center stone on two sides. It is a sleek, elegant design with a bit more security.

Bezel

The bezel style setting is a classic; timeless setting that draws attention to the center stone. The center stone tightly framed with metal all the way around and may sit just above the surface of the ring or as high as a prong set gemstone. Bezel set gemstones may give the impression that the diamond is bigger than it truly is. Perfect for active people, especially those within the medical industry that typically wear gloves. The smooth and rounded edges are less likely to puncture latex gloves.

Tension

Tension setting grips the stone with approximately 65-95 pounds of pressure, giving the impression that the stone is floating in the setting. A contemporary style that is also timeless.

Channel

Channel set gemstones are securely set between two parallel walls of metal. While the stones may still be visible, a small percentage of the gemstone is hidden just a bit. Channel setting is a very clean look and a popular style for most wedding bands.

Flush

Like bezel set, metal frames the gemstone all the way around, except that the gemstone sits flush within the metals surface. It is a very safe and secure style of setting.

Pave

Last but not least, is the Pavé style setting. Pavé is the French word for “cobblestone”. Imagine a cobblestone street, or the manner in which the stones lay, an even, flush manner. In pave setting, there is typically more than one row of multiple diamonds set by tiny beads of metal holding each stone securely. This setting style is very chic and is reminiscent of a vintage look.
